SEI 2017 Day 9 Update

A Sunny California Weekend

Today, SEI students enjoyed touring various areas of California and practicing their English. Students and staff split up into three groups to visit the following places: Huntington Beach, The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, and the Fashion Island Mall. All three locations provided students with a variety of restaurants and shops, giving them a chance to practice their English as they read menus and shopped at American name brand stores.

Huntington Beach

Also known as “Surf City USA” and “The Soul of SoCal”, Huntington Beach is one of the nicest beaches in Southern California. People from all over the world come to visit the 13.7 kilometers of beautiful beach coast, mild climate weather, and excellent waves. Additionally, many spectators visit the beach to watch frequently held surfing competitions. The SEI students thoroughly enjoyed building sand castles, playing beach games, and wading in the cool water.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

The world’s largest rotating tram car, The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, travels almost three miles along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon. It transports riders to the pristine wilderness of the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. The 10 minute, 2,595-meter journey gave the SEI students and staff a chance to relax and soak up the beautiful landscape of Southern California. Upon arriving at the top of the mountain, students had the chance to enjoy restaurants, observation decks, a natural history museum, two documentary theaters, a gift shop, and over 80 kilometers of hiking trails.

Fashion Island Shopping Mall

Located in the heart of Newport Beach, Fashion Island shopping is Southern California’s premier coastal shopping and dining experience. With panoramic ocean views and towering palm trees, Fashion Island stores include famous department stores and specialty boutiques, in addition to more than 30 restaurants. SEI students enjoyed hanging out with friends, watching movies, and shopping in one of the best climate-controlled indoor malls in Southern California.

Question of the day: How has your English improved since coming to SEI?
